Helen Thomas: Anti-Israel is Not Always Anti-Semite

Helen Thomas' departure from the White House press corp. may be well over due, but I hope there will be some debate over whether her ill-advised remarks (here) were anti-Semitic or more narrowly, and less horrifically, anti-Israel. As a journalist, she should have kept her personal beliefs to herself, but as the nearly 90 year old daughter of Lebanese immigrants, we should also understand her background and the influence of old age. Beneath that crotchety, cantankerous surface is an elderly brain off its rails to a destination only the luckiest of us live long enough to see.

What exactly is it that she said that was untrue and "offensive"?? Is Israel not colony of White settlers from EUROPE in a brown region?

Hmmm. I don't know anything about this issue. A responsible blogger would have given a back story *wink*.

Just goes to show, gods are terrible real estate agents (maybe just yahweh and allah). I don't hold it against Helen Thomas, sometimes I even completely agree with what she said about it. I hope she was glad to leave, it doesn't seem to be very honest work anymore.

Israel is totally different because a colony implies "client state" there is no motherland deriving massive profits from Israel. Besides all that, Israeli Jews include more than 1 million Jews from Middle Eastern Lands spanning from North Africa to Afghanistan. These populations have become mainstreamed in the sense that more than 1/2 of Israeli Jews are of Middle Eastern Heritage. They're rooted, unlike Brits in India: They're locals.
