I’ll give McCain this much – if he goes down, it won’t be in a wheel-chair. Putting up a women governor with less experience than Obama, no matter how conservative, is either brilliant or really stupid. She is good looking and married with children to a 1/8 Inuit – that’s almost like 1/2 when you go south of the Mason-Dixon. Biden’s handlers are filing down his incisors right this moment, while Palin laces up her steel-toed boots aimed at his jewels. Drama on the Great Plains.

ReplyDeleteActually WHO believe the lack of experience tirade?
ReplyDeleteThose guys and gals ARE out there to grab VOTES!
Experience's NOT directly proportional to amount o time.
I think choosing a Woman is a GREAT triumph over Obama, SURE will bring him lottsa women voters and sympathy from the press!
How in the world can you say Palin has less experience than Obama?
ReplyDeleteWhat town was Obama mayor of? Oh, well, he's never been mayor of any town. What state was he governor of? Oops, no state governorship, either. How has he gone against his party to fight corruption? Oh wait...he's a Dailey protege. What exactly, has he accomplished except to write two books about himself and run for office?
Your assertion that Palen has less experience than Obama is laughable. I used to think you were a reasonable man, James, but it turns out that you're just another in-the-tank, blind partisan for the black guy, no matter his lack of qualifications, the only qualification that counts in your eyes is his skin color.
I'm ashamed for you.
Duchess: You are so dramatic, were you ever on stage? And instead of picking nits over an arguable point like who has more relevant experience, why don't you use some of that oxygen to tell us why picking her was a brilliant move. Republicans stategists all over the country are wondering why McCain turned over the experience card in his hand. You got our attention, not tell us something!

But question: If it were your decision, and you were putting your country first, would you put an untested small-town mayor a heartbeat away from the presidency?...""

McCain's VP Wants Creationism Taught in Schoo
from wired.com Blog
Discuss politic!
How much experience BUSH have, can you COUNT/MEASURE it?
NO!
Ok...Picking her was a brilliant move because:
ReplyDelete1) She is the epitome of a NON-beltway insider, which was the message that Obama started with. Change-fresh faces, no more insider politics as usual, blah, blah blah. Palin turns that message on it's ear because Obama chose the consumate Washington insider who has been in congress 10 years LONGER than McCain himself, and the ticked is upside down. McCain's got it right. The VP slot is the perfect place for on the job training. That's what it's for, and as much as the Dems would love to fantasize that McCain is gonna die in office, it's not likely. The man wouldn't be dumb enough to run for President unless he was in good health. I'd like to see YOU keep up with him on the stump...seems to me the campaign alone would wear even a young man out;
2) She does have foreign policy experience, much more than Obama, because she runs one of the 3 largest states in the union, which, btw, borders not one, but TWO foreign countries, one of which being Russia. (Ya'll remember Russia, don't you? The guys who invaded that state named like one of our own?);
3) Unlike Obama, who has done little or nothing in his career to warrant the high office he's running for now, Mrs. Palin actually HAS real world executive experience and has worked her way up the political ladder the traditional way, instead of running for a higher office as soon as she gets elected to the first one. She started with the PTA, then city council, Mayor and now Governor. Exactly what has Obama done that you can call traditional? What has he done to prepare himself for the office he holds NOW, let alone the presidency? As far as I know, his only executive experience is the Annenburg Challenge, which was a spectacular 100 million dollar failure, by their own final report, and he chaired that commission, working with his friend and former domestic terrorist Bill Ayers. Of course the U of C is trying to bury it at the moment until AFTER the election, so that there is no evidence that Obama is a terrible administrator;
4) John McCain, like it or not, has a reputation for going against his party and Palin is a gung ho reformer who VETOED the bridge to nowhere, fought corruption in her own party and beat them at their own game to get herself elected as the youngest Alaskan governor in the state's history. Obama is a Chicago Machine protege who has NEVER tried to fight corruption in either party; and
5) As much as we may not like it, there are women out there who will vote whatever ticket has a woman on it. Yes, it's vapid and stupid, but they will. Palin is definitely going to appeal to those gender voters (and please, don't tell me that over 90% of blacks are voting for Obama because they stand with him on issues...we know it's not true, because a good percentage of them are voting for the first time in their LIVES)and the PUMA's who were angry with the treatment Hillary recieved at both the hands of the Press and the Obama campaign.
So, all in all, Palin is a brilliant choice for the 2nd chair in McCain's camp, and for the first time since Reagan, I feel like I can cast a vote FOR the right ticket, instead of holding my nose to vote AGAINST the alternative, and from what I gather in my peregrinations around the blogosphere, there are millions (if you extrapolate the comments) who feel exactly the same way.
She's gonna wipe up the floor with Biden come debate time, because he will be too afraid of the backlash to actually go for her throat like he would if he were debating a man, and the Dems are gonna have to tread lightly on the subject of motherhood as well because she has a special needs child. *grins* I can't wait to see what the parents of other children like that say when the Dem attack dogs start chewing her for that!
Brilliant...
Oh, and whether you like it or not, America is still a mostly white country and even if every black person, dead or alive, votes for Obama, there are not enough of them to get him elected on his skin color alone, and the selection of Palin for VP is just enough to move the independents in McCain's direction....sane, thinking middle Americans who are leery of the whole amorphous "hopenchange" mantra that has no basis in anything but the fevered minds of the liberals.

ReplyDeleteOnce again, I'm ashamed for you.
The State Trooper allegations might have some legs, however Mrs. Palin has been so cooperative in the investigation that they have not had to issue any subpoenas. Not to mention the fact that the Safety Commissioner, or whatever his job title is, serves at the discretion of the Governor and she can fire him, if she likes, because he looked at her wrong. Also, the Trooper in question did, evidently, overstep his authority in tasing a child. But unless the child is the child of a liberal democrat it's ok, right? You should really try to get the facts of a situation before you hit the publish button or you are going to ruin your reputation as a fair minded man. You are sinking fast into the "unhinged" category in my mind. What a shame.
As for the baby story? Puleeze...you getting your information from the Democratic Underground now? I thought you were a sane, thinking man, and how you could even mention this tripe is beyond me.
Shame on you...your desperation is showing and it's totally unattractive.
Duchess: Legs is right. Troppergate says alot about values and use/abuse of power - firing bystanders to a family mess. And now you have the 'bridge to no where' flip-flop revelation where the insult-ee become the insult-er. Followed up with good ole family values where abstinence makes the heart grow...er belly grow bigger. I think McCain may have chosen her for press value - and it is working so far.
ReplyDeleteAs for your ashamedness, you need to give it a rest - pres. politics is partisan and yours is just a visible as any.
Juno in Juneau
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin’s 17-year-old daughter Bristol is five months pregnant. McCain campaign claims he was aware of this before selecting Palin as his VP, despite evidence and rampant speculation that Palin was not seriously vetted. Governor Palin is a strong supporter of abstinence-only sex education.
DaringFireball.NET
Tom Eagleton lasted 18 days before withdrawing from the McGovern ticket in 1972. My money says Palin doesn’t last that long.
------------
I do not know why but I like her, looks kinda cute! [Yeah! stupid]
I never voted and Will never do it!
You know, the comment about Palin's pregnant daughter is rich considering the fact that Obama himself was born out of wedlock to a "single mother." Or doesn't that count? Seems to me having a bastard child in the early 60s counted more than it does now, but what do I know?
ReplyDeleteYour hypocrisy is showing, big time. What does that say for his mother's morals? And since when does the party of killing babies who survive abortions care about morals? Kindly remember that Obama not only voted against, but for once in his empty suited career, spoke OUT against the bill to give help to babies who survive abortions.
Man....yes, politics is partisan but you people are beyond the pale in how you manage to twist yourselves to make a point that should be none of anybody's business to begin with.
Stone...meet glass house.
You all have missed the most important issue in this election -- energy.
ReplyDeleteShe is more experienced and qualified on this issue than any one else in sight.
Alaska is the battleground where the energy issue is going to be fought first, and she is way way way in front of any Democrat that you can imagine. And as a nature lover, married to a native Alaskan, she is unassailable by the greens. Compare her perspective with Pelosi saying we can use natural gas because it isn't a fossil fuel? What a stupid statement, showing that she has absolutely no understanding of energy issues whatsoever.
Palin has more executive experience than Obama, but less celebrity and national stage experience, but, as has been pointed out, she isn't running for president, he is.
As for Troopergate, I don't see that firing the whole White House travel office ever hurt Hillary, so why is this an issue for the Dems now? Silly, anyway, like the silly rumors about her baby being her daughter's. Give me a break... Ever see the movie Juno? That's what people are going to be thinking of, a teenage girl being supported by a loving family.
This was a brilliant selection.
Honestly, I don't give a rat about Palin's family woes. But social conservatives are the epitome of 'glass house dwellers' demanding themselves targets. The spin put on is artistry. Pregnancy happens. Folks get fired (Big Steve and I know about that one). I have learned not to take this stuff personal. It's a chess game and its interesting, because it impacts lives. Both Obama and McCain are playing to win, including bold moves that land on the opponent or waste energy. Neither is a savior. It gives us a diversion while China looms like a late freight and while we pollute ourselves into oblivion. Time to go to work - have a good day.
ReplyDeleteWhat?
ReplyDeleteNo one sees the hypocrisy here?
Does THIS have anything to do with HER daughter?
I am losing my time!
Bye!
This has Nothing to do with her baby, but her hypocrisy regarding abstinence / sex education!
ReplyDeleteMorals is what guide us after-all!
Big Steve is absolutely right. It's about energy. Palin has energized the entire Republican Party. Most of us were luke warm at best (myself included) and most of us would have held our noses to vote for McCain regardless of his VP pick, but his selection of Palin has actually given us a reason to be enthused about the ticket, and the money's rolling into McCain's headquarters as we speak.
ReplyDeleteAs well as energizing the base, I do believe that if Palin hits a homer in her speech tonight, it's pretty much all over for the Dems, as the independents who would like to vote for a historical ticket, but are leery of the Audacity of Hype, can now vote republican and feel like they made history without pushing our country more toward socialism than it's ever been.
Obama's toast now that the Republicans are energized and the ferocity of the attacks on Palin shows just how desperate the Dems are.
I'll ask a tough question here.
ReplyDeleteKen Hamblin (The Black Avenger) once asked,
"Show me one town, city , or state in the USA that is run by an African American, that is successful and not covered in corruption"
The two that come to my mind are Gary IN, and my Birthplace Richmond VA.
And of course My state that voted in the first African American Governor. Gov. Wilder. Who made the state police stop keeping records (against state law) of where the the state police helicopter Gov. Wilder used went. He and Mrs. Kluge had a little thing after her divorce.
Then there is Jesse and AL.
All these politicos are corrupt.
Why do we trust Obama with the worlds most powerful military?
he has a history with crooks, grew up outside the USA, and his brother in Kenya lives on 12 dollars a year.
Thank you Duchess -- a coincidence that we are both in Austin.
ReplyDeleteI had a conversation last night where I found myself saying that the Dems just don't get it. Ironic, since that has been their rallying cry for so long. But so many of our country's problems are based on terrible energy policy, and from Kennedy's opposition to windmills to Pelosi's foolish ignorance about fossil fuels, from the resistance to nuclear to their refusal to even allow discussion of drilling, the Dems don't get it. And don't get me started on the total fraud that is ethanol. Nobody ever asked if ethanol could be put in a pipe...
Once again, I am not a Republican, and I loathe the bigger government, the bigger deficit, and the bigger war that Bush has saddled us with. I will likely vote for Ron Paul, myself...

Palin Comes to Convention Packin' Zingers
September 03, 2008 7:07 PM
The RNC has released these excerpts of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's speech tonight.
"I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town. I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids' public education better. When I ran for city council, I didn't need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and knew their families, too. Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities."
On why she is going to Washington, D.C.:
"I'm not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I've learned quickly, these past few days, that if you're not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone. But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion -- I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country."
On energy policies:
"Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America's energy problems -- as if we all didn't know that already. But the fact that drilling won't solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all. Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines ... build more nuclear plants ... create jobs with clean coal ... and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers."
On John McCain:
"Here's how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then, there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change."
- jpt
Sarah will be in the white house for the next 16 years.
I liked the line "Change is not a policy, hope is not a strategy".
ReplyDeleteWhat I have appreciated from James' writing is the hardcore tactical focus he brings to the issues.
Obama's good words are inspiring, but ultimately fall flat once he explains that income redistribution, taxing the companies that are producing what we need more of (when as we all know, when you tax something you get less of it), and fomenting class conflict are his proposed tactics.
Sarah Palin and John McCain, to a lesser degree because he's old and inconsistent, are grant more credit for what they have 'accomplished' because they can play to American bias.
ReplyDeleteA 'real' white woman is far less suspicious than a genuine black man (my God, is he really half-white?). A mother with a career has overcome many more obstacles than any black/white man such as pagentry, married and childbirth. And the governor of a small state and mayor of a small town are considered above big city, big population states unless their colors are reversed. If roles were reversed the discussion would be too.
Corporate lobbyist are the problem and who really runs the country. Get off the color crap. Show me a black woman like Mrs. Palin and I'm right beside her. It's about freedom, the citizens running the government, and ending or at least fighting hard corruption.
ReplyDeleteAnd who would argue with having another advocate for the disabled in the White House?
"Goddess on the mountain top
Burning like a silver flame
The summit of beauty and love
And Venus was her name
CHORUS:
She's got it
Yeah, baby, she's got it
I'm your Venus, I'm your fire
At your desire
Well, I'm your Venus, I'm your fire
At your desire"
"But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion - I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country. Americans expect us to go to Washington for the right reasons, and not just to mingle with the right people.
Politics isn't just a game of clashing parties and competing interests.
The right reason is to challenge the status quo, to serve the common good, and to leave this nation better than we found it.
No one expects us to agree on everything.
But we are expected to govern with integrity, good will, clear convictions, and ... a servant's heart.
I pledge to all Americans that I will carry myself in this spirit as vice president of the United States. This was the spirit that brought me to the governor's office, when I took on the old politics as usual in Juneau ... when I stood up to the special interests, the lobbyists, big oil companies, and the good-ol' boys network.
Sudden and relentless reform never sits well with entrenched interests and power brokers. That's why true reform is so hard to achieve.
But with the support of the citizens of Alaska, we shook things up.
And in short order we put the government of our state back on the side of the people."
Tom: Your earlier 'tough question' made it seem like don't think black leadership is viable, by inference of race. And now you want people to 'cut the color crap'. Which is it, and who needs (again by inference) to cut what?
ReplyDeleteI didn't say it. Can't believe you fell in that trap. Ken Hamblin said it, another African American.
ReplyDeleteAn African American, like yourself, who thinks people ought to stand on their on two feet and quit making excuses.
"I'm telling you to swim," Hamblin declared in Emerge. "The boat is sinking under you." He plans to continue spreading his motivational message to listeners and readers. In 1994, he began writing a book that had the provocative working title Don't Feed the Blacks. "You whites have done your jobs," Hamblin told the New York Times. "You got rid of slavery. You marched for the end to segregation in the South, got rid of the poll taxes. Thank you very much. Now let us go. Let us achieve. Let us fail. We are capable of being held accountable."
Hamblin is speaking of facts. Show me don't tell me, as the saying goes. Obama's problem is not color it competence and reliability.
I'd vote for Dr. Condoleezza Rice or Colin Powell but they won't run for whatever reason.
I was hoping McCain would have picked Dr. Rice so he could shut everyone up on the color crap.
It's about judgement and qualifications.
Who would trust with the lives of your children and grandchildren and the future of the country.
Zero or a 23 year decorated POW vet, Senator, and now Presidential candidate.
And who would you have as VP racist Biden, who better get his VP nomination in writing before Zero changes his mind. Or a hard hitting slugger for truth and justice like Sarah.
I know the corporations run everything. But given the tools I bet Sarah could change that more than anyone else running.

California thought police at work again.
Come to my side of the country for awhile if you want to see racism, bigotry, etc.
Black against white and white against black.
It's really sad. My best friend is a black Christian.
We'll never get past this if you can't talk about it.
And if you really thinks it racist and bigoted put it up for a vote.
I identify with blacks more than whites as I come from a broken dysfunctional home and family. It really sucks. But again it is what it is.
Face it, own it, deal with it.
Now Tom, you know good and well that it wasn't the quoting or news articles that got you yanked. Play all the games you want, just not here.
ReplyDeleteJames, thank you for removing some of the more hateful, racist, incendiary posts from your site. I'm not sure if anyone else does, but I really appreciate it.
